Rather than spam the newswires with a generic press release, 2K Games chose to reveal the official shipdate for Irrational's (developers of System Shock 2 and the Freedom Force franchise) first-person action-RPG title BioShock via the Cult of Rapture, a 2K Games-run community site focused specifically on BioShock. Community Manager Elizabeth Tobey posted the following short update:
BioShock street date is August 21
The headline says it all: BioShock's street date is August 21st. That's a Tuesday, for all you who might be planning your "sick" days in advance. Let the countdown begin!
2K Games further confirmed that the 8/21 ship date applies to both the Xbox 360 and PC versions, and that BioShock fans "across the pond" (i.e. Europeans) will get it three days later on 8/24. Additionally, Tolbey has posted details about a joint 2K Games/Threadless contest in which gamers can design a t-shirt in order to win an Xbox 360, a BioShock-specific faceplate for said Xbox 360, and a copy of the game (for both platforms).
BioShock fans now have about six months to ponder the many decisions BioShock will force you to make ("Do I kill this little girl in order to harvest a resource to better my stats?") before putting said decisions into practice in the final game. Or you can just check out the latest set of screenshots here (http://media.xbox360.gamespy.com/media/793/793105/imgs_1.html).
