View Full Version : Custom Map Night?

Was thinking it might be nice to mix things up a bit. I was thinking we could run custom maps one night a week and see if folks like it.

Since this would be a separate server everyone would have to rank up again. Or, we could possibly run a mod on it which would allow all weapons we want all the time.

Thoughts?

I tend to enjoy the custom maps and "some" of the custom mods as well.

I love cutom Maps and Mods and think a custom map night would be a great idea! Personally, Ace and Kmod are my two favorite mods and should definately be considered. Ancient, Backlot 2, backlot Night, and Forlorn are not too big, not too small, and a few of my favorite custom Maps. There are others as well that I am not sure of the name. I think most would agree that they like to break away from the norm every now and then.

I am all for custom maps, but have never seen a mod that I thought was worth playing.

I am looking into a way for us to have any weapon we want and save our custom load outs without using a mod. I don't want all the extra bling those mods offer. Just stock play on good custom maps.

I am in touch with the better modders of the community and hope to have an answer for this soon.

What I would ask is for a continuation of BigZ's recommendations for maps. I don't want fantasy (leggo or sandbox) maps, just great quality, good fps maps. If you have suggestions post them here. I would like to start out with a rotation of 5-10 really good maps.

Well, I have my answer.
The only way to do this is to run a mod. I have chosen the awe4 mod. I have disabled (in config, havent set the server up yet) almost every option there is in this mod besides spawn protection and power ranking.

One nice thing I noticed about this mod (assuming I have read the documentation correctly) is that you can manipulate your custom classes any time, not just offline or between map changes.

There are tons of settings so as we play on this server we will need to keep an eye out for anything that seems out of the ordinary. If we find something I can change it in the config files.

Once we have some maps chosen I will start on setting the new server up.

We had our first live test of the server last night. I have to admit I was not overly impressed. I thought I pretty much had the mod dumbed down but the game still felt a bit too "changed". It could be that there are some settings in the mod that I missed, not totally sure at this point.

I really wish there was a way to deal with the ranking alone so I could avoid all the mod hassles. I will continue to investigate this.

Ok, I spent some time with the configs. I tweaked some things that we felt were way off last night. I also found some mistakes I made in the main config where the mod was trying to run multiple mod modes at one time, oops.

I am happy to say that things are MUCH better now!

Our biggest problem is the need for high quality maps. I am not happy with some of the maps running currently. Honestly, we know that professional level maps are out there, we need to find em.

You all can help with this. Find some super good looking maps, download them and play them on your machine by launching a local server. If they look and play well then link us to them in this thread and I will get them up on the server for us to test.

P.S.
Viper, looks like the create a class thing is working right now. What I did find is that you can create a new class at any time during the map, but newly created classes can not be used until map rotation. Still, a good improvement over stock.

I have left the server up and running so that we can get a good test of it tonight. Please spend some time on it and report any problems.

I set the redirect back to the website instead of pulling the files from our game host. I think the game host redirect may have issues. Server is up and running the custom maps now, needs to be tested.

The main thing I did not like about the mod is that you cannot pick up new weapons or ammo and once you run out you can only frag people until you die. Personally, and I am sure a lot of people will agree, if I have a 10 kill+ streak going on, I don't want to be left without a gun or ammo. If you can change whatever it was making guns dissapear after death, please do.

The claymores not disappearing after death could get really annoying too. The other night after everyone left and it was just me, Z and Archer I think I had like 8 claymores set around the map, as much as "I" didn't mind having claymores around every corner, I don't think Archer was as happy about finding them all. ;)
