Omnilinkit Audio Editorial #5 I'm Mad As Hell (http://www.omnilinkit.com/music/immadashell.mp3)
This is an Omnilinkit editorial. I am ibleedv20. We may be getting mad as hell but it seems we are going to take it some more. With the global economy in a state of suck and consumers opting for less expensive forms of entertainment, Activision has announced their early xmas present to gamers and it has a big red ribbon on it. The gift card on it reads. 60 dollars. From Activision to you from behind. Yeah yeah yeah, reasons. Overbudget this. Higher costs that. Why would anyone debate or care what problems Activision has or may have created for themselves. As soon as you go there you no longer are a consumer......You are a captive fan. Consumers don't feel pity for the company who cuts 4 oz. off a box of macaroni and cheese. They pick it up, shake it, analyze it .....and eat it! And they ask...Am I being fed? In Gaming you can't cut 4 oz off a game..In gaming it has to be more more more. It's media designed to stimulate and entertain. When is the last time a blockbuster movie sequel tried to offer less...same theory ...same general market.....And the same big mistake being made by releasing titles every year in the same series.
I am a bit confused by this approach of raising the price of the game while crying in public about being overbudget and coping with rising costs. In sports this is called the losers limp. Player X, drops perfect pass and comes up lame on the field. Human nature says, it's a cover for poor performance. In a business meeting it's called running someone under the bus. Anyway you cut it it's making an excuse.
Now, when you do this at a time when consumer prejudice is high you might be asking for trouble. Few businesses are taking this approach because they are looking long term towards the consumer to keep them competitive. Mcdonalds is leading the way in the fast food industry and is running almost historic increases, by focusing on value, and they never cry the blues in public about how hard they have it.
Of course Mcdonalds sees it's clientele as repeat business and tries to build a customer experience based on value since they want to sell you something more often.Hmmm! Activision wants to sell us more games ,more often, and wants to raise the price when we are feeling uncertain financially. Go figure.
