From PC World today:
One thing you pay dearly for prizing away from PC enthusiasts is control, but that's just what Infinity Ward's risking by moving Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer servers in-house. The decision, which broke in an October 17 podcast with fan site BashandSlash (http://bashandslash.com/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1), involves swapping traditional do-it-yourself PC matchmaking servers for autocratic console-style centralization...aka One Server (Farm) To Rule Them All.
Result? A veritable you-know-what storm.

I read the entire article, and by the end the author is almost mocking the PC community for their disdain. End comment...
"But in the event you're just griping because someone's telling you to, or bristling because IWNET's an idea cribbed from consoles like the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, ask yourself this:
Are you upset because you want control for the sake of improving the game experience?
Or control for the sake of control?"
The problem here is a lot of these people writing these articles don't seem to have a fucking clue what they're talking about. The writer of this article seems to imply that the servers are hosted by IWNET themselves. Not understanding the P2P behind it.

My question is this... Does IW even care?
Being in a higher sales position for a large company before I see the responses of the community and try to gauge how I would react to this. Initially my thoughts were "Who would I have to rip a new asshole??" My job was all about fixing any problems. Some would say my job was about problems... but after so many years I realized it wasn't about problems, the problems were there, my job was about solutions.
So my first instinct is that IW "has" to be looking for a solution. But then I thought about it in a different term. If my largest clients came to me outraged over a problem with his $75k order I would jump on it RIGHT AWAY to get it resolved. But if a small remodel contractor came in roaring about a $1k order, and I found the customer to be a general pain in the ass with "everything"... well... I would want to keep his business if possible, but I wouldn't cater to his every demand.
With the whole piracy issue, the modding of their original maps, ability to include hacks and cheats and what not... It's very possible that IW just looks at us as a thorn in their side, which they tolerate because we still bring them money, but aren't going to bend over backwards or do things the way we demand unless it's a concern to them. If IW has gone to the idea of thinking the console gamers give them more profit, and don't create all these technical hassles... Why would they care?

TBH Sabore, this whole thing is so strange that I don't know what to think anymore.
We will have to wait and watch after release, then the real truth will be known.
